On the heels of my last blog about Holiday shopping online, I see the benefit of explaining how a small business can set up gift card sales their website. The process is simple, with much long-term benefit.
Our most recent endeavor consisted of setting up a shopping cart for our client, Tenuta’s Italian Restaurant. They have been pondering the idea of selling gift cards online to increase the convenience of purchasing gift cards from the restaurant for a year or so. The recent process required customers to come in to the restaurant, purchase the gift card at the bar and be on their way with the gift card in hand. It’s certainly not a horrible process and it has worked for the 13 years Tenuta’s has been in business. Considering the online shopping trend growing by leaps and bounds, Tenuta’s decided to jump on the party train.
The first step was to secure the site for credit card transactions. This required a purchase of an SSL certificate through their hosting company. Once that was set up, they chose a processing company for the payments. We then built the customized shopping page for the gift cards. We created some great features such as different denominations, shipping (to the customer purchasing or another address) and pick up options. The cart was configured to compute the totals including a small shipping fee and an option to create an account for the next time the customer wishes to make a purchase. The new shopping page is also expandable for the restaurant to add additional items, like merchandise, in the future.
As I mentioned, it’s a simple process to put in place and takes less than 2 weeks to get rolling. If you are looking for help setting up your shopping cart on your website, let g2media pros walk you through it or do it for you! Happy Selling!
