I was watching the Food Network show “Chopped” and I saw such a parallel with what I do. Now, mind you, I don’t cook. At all. Yes, I can prepare a decent meal, but it is certainly not a passion of mine. But, this show fascinates me! How do they do it? They have 30 seconds to evaluate 4 mystery ingredients in a basket, then have 30 minutes to prepare a meal that is judged on creativity, presentation and taste. They resourcefully use a pantry and fridge full of additional ingredients along with a kitchen full of cooking tools and small appliances to create the meal.
Each chef has a unique, personal motivation for entering in this competition ~ children, spouses, parents, life events, etc. The common ingredient, between them all is their passion, experience and desire to WIN. If you’re not familiar with the show, check it out here:
As I was watching, I started to think about the several client meetings I had over the past week. In each meeting, I was presented with a “basket of mystery ingredients”. The ingredients were not the same for each client, either. I was excited about each basket and took them back to my office. Much like the kitchen, my office is full of tools and resources to develop winning marketing strategies for my clients. Each task was challenging for sure, but with my passion, experience and desire to WIN, the solutions came together nicely. See the parallel?!
So I really do know how to cook, my “kitchen” just looks a little different.
What do you do with the mystery ingredients your customers present to you? Do you tap into your passion, experience and desire to WIN? Do you have people on your team doing the same thing? What is your unique, personal motivation to make your business the best?
Gotcha thinkin, didn’t I? Now we’re cookin!
